53 and Floating Palaces: A Birthday Adventure Unfolds!

9th until 26th of Feb 2026

Sun 22 Feb 2026, 6:20:19 pm CET OK, it is already the end of a nice and special weekend. The last couple of days... it's actually been almost two weeks since I last updated here! Madness. But to my defence, it has been a busy time with some travelling included. It was also my birthday last week - I can not believe that I am already 53 years old! Anyways...age is all in your head, right? Now when I am writing this, I am actually remembering all the stuff that happened since last time I had to do the introspection and writing here. More than I first thought, which is nice.

Thu Feb 26 2026, 7:00:25 pm CET So again, I wrote earlier a text but never posted it (I do it now, see above), I simply did not have time to complete the post sooner. Anyways, it's been a lot the last weeks. An excursion to Rotterdam for my birthday, work related stuff (time for a new car also), family (son in Antwerp and parents in Sweden), friends, and a lot of other things (I had an important masonic presentation/work to prepare and deliver). A lot of exciting stuff thus!

For each of the above mentioned things, I could write a lot, but I will not do that here. I will just say that it has been a very nice time, and I am grateful for all the things that I have in my life. I am also grateful for the fact that I can share some of it here with you, and that you are reading this. It means a lot to me. It really does.

It is only now that I browse through some pictures and as an example I see some of the pictures taken during the trip to Rotterdam, and the excursion we did to the ship S.S. Rotterdam [[alt text]]I can really reccomend of doing the complete guided tour of the ship. It was just a fantastic experience. To give you an idea, the ship was built in 1958 and was in service until 2000 (from 2013 it still serves as a museum and hotel). It was the flagship of the Holland America Line and was one of the largest and most luxurious ships of its time. It had a length of 219 meters and a width of 27 meters. It could accommodate up to 1,440 passengers and had a crew of 600 people. The ship was also equipped with a swimming pool, a theater, a casino, and several restaurants. It was truly a floating palace. We had a guided tour of the ship, and it was just amazing to see all the details and the history behind it. I can highly recommend it if you ever have the chance to visit Rotterdam. Frank Sinatra even performed on the ship in 1958, and it was his first performance in Europe. The ship also had a lot of other famous guests, such as the Beatles, Elvis Presley, and many others. It was truly a piece of history. I have a lot of pictures from the complete guided tour and I will try to share some of them here in the future. There are some more details here Read more about it on Wikipedia..

I did have some plans to write a little bit more about the trip to Rotterdam and the recent events, but I will save that for another post when I have more time (yeah, right). I will however just quickly mention something that I am not allowed to discuss in detail, but just wanted to mention that my expected masonic work went very well, and I am very happy with the result. It was an interesting experience to prepare and deliver my masonic presentation, and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so. I just wanted to mention that it was a great experience and that I am very happy with the result. A true memorable experience that I will not forget in a very long time. I am also grateful for the support and encouragement that I received from my masonic brothers, and I am looking forward to continue my masonic journey in the future.

Did you know that..? I try to find an interesting historical event that occurred on this day. Sun 22 Feb 2026, 6:20:19 pm CET Did you know that today in 2013 is when a hot air balloon crashes near Luxor Read more about it on Wikipedia., Egypt, killing 19 people.
