Chaos, Chairs, and Grace

13th until 17th of May 2026

Sun 17 May 2026, 12:28:40 pm CET It is Sunday, the weather is gray and rainy today, and the temperature is around 12 degrees Celsius . Apparently it will stay like this today, but the forecast for the week looks better with some sunny days and temperatures around the high twenties. There were some eventful days in the past week.

Workwise, it's been busy but not overwhelming. I have been working on a few projects, and I have also felt the rottenness in one of the projects, which has been quite stressful. I have been trying to stay positive and focus on the good things, but it's been hard. In earlier years I would have been more affected by this, but I have learned to take it in stride and not let it get to me as much. The positives from the experience is that I have been able to learn a lot and grow as a person, and I have also been able to connect with some great people. My team, my manager have been absolutely amazing and I am grateful for their support and guidance. "Surround you with people who fight for you even when you are not in the room", is a quote I came across last week which really resonated with.

It was a shorter week last week, with the public holiday on Thursday, the 14th of May, which is the Ascension's Day Read more about it on Wikipedia., a Christian holiday that commemorates the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. We all celebrate it, of course...

Friday was a typical workday after the public holiday, and I spent most of the day catching up on work and emails. It was calm, so I could focus on the more administrative tasks that I usually don't have time for during the week. After work, I started a fun little 3D project that I have been wanting to do for a while, which is to create a 3D model of an adirondack chair. It might sound like a strange and straightforward project, but I have been searching for a good drawings of an Adirondack chair for a while, and I finally found some good ones that I can use as reference. I captured the sketches and processed them in GIMP, saved it in PNG sketch, GIMP, 3d-printingThe original image of the sketch which was reworked in GIMP. format and imported them into FreeCAD, where I have been working on the 3D model. I had to completely start from scratch transforming them into sketches  in FreeCAD. After a lot of work in FreeCAD and exporting all the parts to Orcaslicer, I finally 3D-printed all the parts and started gluing them together. It's been a fun and rewarding project, and I am really happy with how it turned out adirondack,3D-printing,modelHere is an image showing the progress. It is not yet completely done...but it gives you an idea of the project.. In the evening we enjoyed a nice dinner to celebrate the birthday of my mother in-law's 75th birthday, which was a nice way to end the week.

Saturday started off calm and collective, with some chores and organising around the house. We learned about that some youths - friends of the children to me brother in-law - have tragedy lost their lives in a car accident in our neighbourhood, which was very sad and put a damper on the day. It is extremely sad when young people lose their lives, and it is a reminder of how fragile life is and how important it is to cherish every moment. Stupid small decisions can have such a huge impact on people's lives, and it is heartbreaking to think about the families and friends who are affected by this tragedy. In the afternoon we went to Antwerp for dinner and then to a cabaret show, it was a birthday surprise for my mother in-law, and it was a really interesting show. It certainly left us with a lot to think about.

Sunday was a day with a lot of chores and guiding J. in some school work, but it was also a day with some fun and relaxation. We did some golf and other activities to get the body moving, and we also enjoyed some nice food and drinks. Later in the evening I drove J. back to Antwerp. Another week was about to start with some interesting activities coming up... more to come on that in the next post!

Did you know that..? I try to find an interesting historical event that occurred on this day. Sun 17 May 2026, 12:28:40 pm CET Did you know that today in 1900 is when the children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum Read more about it on Wikipedia., is first published in the United States.
